He was the son of the late James Ambrose, and his wife Ruth Ferrin. Harry had five siblings, William, Ruth Elizabeth, Margaret Mary, Sarah Maria and Norah Annie. His father was killed in action on the 15th February 1918 whilst serving with the Labour Corps., and his brother William died of his wounds on the 17th February 1918. The War Diary for today records. GORRE, RIGHT. At 8.30am. Lt PEARSON and 2nd Lt CHRISTY with patrols of A and D Coy’s respectively approached house opposite centre of Battn front with a view to seeing whether it was still occupied. Both patrols were hotly attacked by several parties on all flanks, and were outnumbered. Lt PEARSON and the two other ranks with him were captured still fighting, 2nd Lt CHRISTY managed after 1½ hours fighting and crawling to withdraw the whole of his patrol back to our lines in safety. Enemy altogether were active and alert. 2nd Lt BURGESS reported for duty with the Battn. Patrol sent out to search ground of patrol encounter, could find no trace of any of missing patrol.
