He was the son of Charles Buswell a gardener, born 1862 in Clipston, Northants., and his wife Emma, born 1861 in Kings Cliffe, Northants. Harold was born on the 24th July 1890 in Market Harborough, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Highfield Street, Great Bowden, Leics. In March 1901 Harold was residing in the family home at 72, Nelson Street, Great Bowden, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Elsie, born 1892, William Ewart, born 1895, Joseph Arthur, born 1896, Sydney Charles, born 1897 and Edwin George, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Market Harborough, Leics. In April 1911 Harold was employed as a grocer’s warehouseman and was residing in the family home at 72, Nelson Street, Market Harborough, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Elsie, a corset factory machinist, Joseph, a gardener’s assistant, Sydney, a grocer’s errand boy, William, a furniture salesman and Edwin, a schoolboy. At the time of his enlistment he gave his next of kin as his wife Ethel Elizabeth Buswell, Bull Ring, Stoke Golding, Leics., later changed to c/o Mrs E. Andrews, Great Easton, Near Uppingham, Rutland. Harold had previously served for 4 years with the 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regt. Enlisted 22nd June 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 18th October 1917 where he joined the Nelson Battalion on the 13th November 1917 until the 26th December 1917 when he suffered a shotgun wound to the head and was invalided home on the 10th January 1918. He embarked again to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 1st June 1918 and joined the Hawke Battalion on the 15th June 1918, serving with this unit until he was killed in action on the 22nd August 1918. His younger brother Sydney also died.
