Moulded white marble tablet in shape of scroll with anchor and chain behind and colourful crest at head. Lettering in black. Whole on black backboard which bears maker's details in bottom right corner.

SIR ALEXANDER DUNDAS YOUNG ARBUTHNOTT,
ADMIRAL ROYAL NAVY;
ONE OF THE GENTLEMEN OF HER MAJESTY?S PRIVY CHAMBER,
KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF CHARLES III,
AND OF THE NATIONAL AND MILITARY ORDER
OF SAN FERNANDO OF SPAIN;
KNIGHT OF THE IMPERIAL ORDER OF ST GEORGE OF RUSSIA,
AND THE IMPERIAL ORDER OF THE MEDJIDIE OF TURKEY.
AFTER SERVING HIS GOD AND HIS COUNTRY
WITH TRUE DEVOTION,
DIED ON THE 8TH OF MAY, 1871,
AT SHENTON HALL,
AGED 82 YEARS.
HIS REMAINS ARE INTERRED IN THIS CHURCHYARD.
HE ENTERED THE ROYAL NAVY, APRIL 9TH, 1803,
WAS PRESENT AT THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR,
AND SERVED IN THE EXPEDITION BEFORE ALGIERS,
ACCOMPANIED THE BRITISH AUXILIARY LEGION TO SPAIN,
WAS PRESENT AT THE RELIEF OF ST SEBASTIAN,
AND LED THE FORLORN HOPE AT THE STORMING OF IRUN.
NOT SLOTHFUL IN BUSINESS,
FERVENT IN SPIRIT,
SERVING THE LORD.
