He was the only son of Frank Marson Ainge a Boot Trade Cutter, born 1868 in Leicester and his wife Elizabeth Anne a Hosiery Button Holer, born 1871 in Leicester. Edgar was born in 1895 in Leicester. In 1901 the family home was at 3, Melton Street, Leicester. He was killed in action at daybreak at Neuvilly, north of Le Cateau, France.
