He was the son of Richard and Emeline Middleton.

Frederick Middleton was born in 1898 in Leicester. in 1911 he was still at school and living at 79 Conduit Street Leicester. His father was an assistant station master, born in Stroud, Kent and his mother was born in Southwark, London. He had three sisters and one brother. In 1914 he was living at 49 St Stephen's Road Leicester.

In 1918 the Leicestershire Yeomanry were reformed and attached to other mounted unit. Private Middleton was attached to the 4th Queens Own Hussars and would have taken part in the Battle of Moreuil Wood on 30th March. He is reported to have died of wounds at home in June, which may have been received in this action.

Also commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial in Surrey.
