He was the son of William Newstead Jarvis, a builder’s labourer, born 1867 in Great Glen, Leics., and his wife Emily, born 1874 in Desborough, Northants. Frederick William was an errand boy and was born in 1897 in Knighton, Leicester, his siblings were, George Henry, a bottler, born 1894, Charles Newstead, a hosiery trade trimmer, born 1894, Constance Evelyn, born 1901, Kate Elizabeth, born 1907 and Margaret Alice, born 1909, all his siblings were born in Knighton, Leicester, in April 1911 the family home was at 90, Montague Road, Leicester. His elder brother Charles Newstead Jarvis fell in action. On Tuesday January 16th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS” – IN MEMORIAM. JARVIS.- In loving memory of our dear son, Pte. F. W. Jarvis, 17771, who died of wounds received in action, 16th Jan. 1916. God shall clasp the broken chain. Closer when we meet again. Duty nobly done. And under the same heading. JARVIS.- In loving memory of our dear nephew, Fred, who died of wounds received in action, Jan 16 1916. To memory ever dear. His duty done. From his loving Aunt Mary and Uncle John, of Cardiff. The War Diary for today records. Church Parade with the Rev R. I. IRWIN. Rain came on during the day.
