He was the son of Joseph Homer, a hosiery manufacturer, born 1843 in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire and his wife Elizabeth Homer (nee Beardsmore, married in the 3rd quarter of 1873 in the Hinckley, Leicestershire district), born 1846 in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Tertius was born in the 2nd quarter of 1883 in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, his siblings were, Edith Grace, a schoolgirl, born 1876, Elizabeth Gertrude, a schoolgirl, born 1880 and John Beardsmore, a schoolboy, born 1881, all his siblings were born in Hinckley, Leicestershire, in April 1891 the family home was at Fosse Road, Leicester. In April 1911 Tertius was employed as a clerk and was residing in the family home at 48, Stretton Road, Leicester together with his father now a retired hosiery manufacturer, his mother and sister Gertrude.
