He was the son of James Palmer Higgott, a cigar manufacturer’s foreman, born 1860 in Whitwick, Leics., and his wife Sarah Ann, born 1861 in Leicester. William was a schoolboy and was born in 1895 in Leicester, his siblings were, Emily, a cigar sorter, born 1886 and Francis, a hosiery trade mechanic, born 1890, both his siblings were born in Leicester, in April 1911 the family home was at 20, Jermyn Street, Leicester. On Monday February 26th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS” – DEATHS. HIGGOTT.- On the 18th, at the 5th Casualty Clearing Station, France, of wounds, Pte. W. Higgott, R.A.M.C.
