He was the son of John and Bertha Adcock. In 1911 the family home was at 69, Curzon Street, Ibstock, Leicestershire, present were his father John who was a Coal Miner Hewer, born 1868 in Ibstock, Leicestershire and his mother Bertha a Shopkeeper who was born in 1877 in Ibstock, Leicestershire. Charles was a Shop Assistant and was born in 1897 in Ibstock, Leicestershire, at home there were five brothers and one sister, William a Schoolboy, born 1899, Samuel a Schoolboy, born 1901, John Thomas a Schoolboy, born 1903, Walter, born 1907, Robert George, born 1909 and Esther a Schoolgirl, born 1905, all his siblings were born in Ibstock, Leicestershire. Charles enlisted on the 3rd July 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 30th October 1917. He joined his unit, the Anson Battalion of the 21st November 1917 and served with them until the 27th December, when he suffered a gun shot wound to the scalp. After recovery he rejoined the Anson Battalion on the 14th March 1918 and served until the 24th March 1918 when he was reported missing in action, presumed killed.
