He was the son of the Reverend Percy Andrews, and his wife Matilda J., who was born in 1847 in Micheldever, Hampshire. Maynard Percy an undergraduate at Oriel College, Oxford was born in 1871 in Whitchurch, Shropshire, he had two siblings Agnes J., born 1866 in Lilleshall, Shropshire and Ethel Mary, born 1867 in Lilleshall, Shropshire, in April 1891 the family home was at East Parade, Bilton with Harrogate, Yorkshire. In April 1911 Maynard Percy was a Modern Language Master at Lancing College, Sussex and was the husband of Charlotte Jane Andrews, born 1872 in East Lothian, Prestonkirk, Scotland, they had two children, Maynard Campbell, born 1903 in Bolton, Lancashire and Leila Kathleen, born 1906 in Bolton, Lancashire, the family home was at Upper Shoreham Road, Old Shoreham by the Sea, Sussex. He was an MA Oxon. (Oriel College) and had been a School Master by profession. The Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys published a Roll of Honour on the 31st January 1920 in which an entry appears showing him as having been a Master at the school in 1899, the entry also records that he was killed while courageously rescuing some of his men.
