He was the son of William Bott a shoe maker, born 1859 in Markfield, Leics., and his wife Mary (Pollie), born 1857 in Welford, Northants. William Harold was born in 1891 in Markfield, Leics., his siblings were Lizzie, born 1884, Wilfred, born 1887, Lilian J., born 1889, Muriel, born 1893, Stanley, born 1895, Bertie, born 1897 and Irene, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Markfield, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Hillside Villa, Markfield, Leics. In April 1911 William was serving as a Sapper with the Royal Engineers and was stationed at Royal Engineers Barracks, Brompton and St. Mary’s, Medwat, Kent. Harold died of phthisis.
