He was the son of William Ensor, a coalminer, born 1860 in Measham, Leicestershire and his wife Harriett Ensor (formerly Sanders, married in the 2nd quarter of 1888 in the Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire district), born 1856 in Measham. Richard was born in the 4th quarter of 1888 in Measham, his step siblings were, James Saunders, a schoolboy, born 1880, Henry Saunders, a schoolboy, born 1882 and Alice Saunders, a schoolgirl, born 1886, all his step siblings were born in Measham, in April 1891 the family home was at Bosworth Road, Measham, Leicestershire. In March 1901 Richard was residing in the family home at Wood Yard Cottages, High Street, Measham, Leicestershire, together with his mother and siblings, Harriet, born 1894, John, born 1896 and Annie, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Measham, also residing in the family home were his step siblings, James Saunders, a soldier with the Leicestershire Regiment, Alice Saunders, a tape weaver and Henry Saunders, a colliery horse driver. Richard died in the 20th General Hospital, Camiers, France.
