The death of Michael James West was reported in the Market Harborough Advertiser on the 4th April 1941:

'Local Pilot Officer's Death'

Pilot Officer Michael James West, RAFVR, aged 22, whose death is reported in another column, joined the VR in May 1939 and learned to fly in his spare time. Educated at Oakham and was in business with Messrs R and WH Symington, two of his uncles, Mr FG Cox and Mr WS Symington, being managing director and director of this firm. He was a keen cricketer and had hunted regularly with the Pytchley Hounds since his childhood.
