He was the son of Charles W. Coleman a railway platelayer, born 1880 in Burton Overy, Leics., and his wife Ellen Elizabeth, born 1880 in Woodford Halse, Northants. Victor Frederick was born in 1899 in Woodford Halse, Northants., he had one sibling, a brother John Thomas, born 1901 in Idle, Bradford, Yorks.. in March 1901 the family home was at 7, Town Lane, Idle, Yorks. In April 1911 Victor was residing at Manor Street, Wigston Magna, Leics., together with his mother and siblings John, George William, born 1903 in Burton Overy, Leics., and Ellen Rachel, born 1905 in Wigston Magna, Leics., this was the home of his paternal grandparents, Thomas Coleman, a Midland Railway Company platelayer, born 1850 in Great Glen, Leics., and his wife Eliza, born 1850 in Burton Overy, Leics.
