He was the son of Henry Peck, a blacksmith and cycle agent, born 28th September 1865 in Long Clawson, Leicestershire and his wife Mary Kate Peck (nee Morris, married in the 3rd quarter of 1892 in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire district), born 1866 in Long Clawson. Thomas William was born in the 2nd quarter of 1899 in Long Clawson, his siblings were, Morris Henry, born 20th October 1894 and Charlotte, born 15th November 1896, both his siblings were born in Long Clawson, in March 1901 the family home was at Main Street, Pecks Lane, Long Clawson. In April 1911 Thomas was residing in the family home at Long Clawson, together with his father, a shoeing and general smith, his mother and siblings, Morris, an engineer’s fitter, Charlotte, Horace, born 1901 and Ralph Broadhurst, born 15th May 1905, the latter two siblings were both born in Long Clawson. In the 2nd quarter of 1927, in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire district, Thomas’ mother died aged 61. In 1939 Thomas’ father now a retired smith and was residing in the family home at The Garage, Long Clawson together with his second wife, Annie M. Peck (nee Keyworth, married in the 3rd quarter of 1930 in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire district), born on the 25th September 1867.
Thomas died in the 19th Casualty Clearing Station, France from pneumonia, he was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
On Friday December 13th 1918 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LONG CLAWSON.” – LOCAL SOLDIER’S DEATH. – Much sympathy is expressed throughout the village with Mr. and Mrs. H. Peck and family on the loss of their second son, Pte. William Peck, who died of sickness in France. Pte. Peck was of a very bright and cheerful disposition, and will be greatly missed by his many friends.
On Friday December 20th 1918 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LONG CLAWSON.” – LOCAL SOLDIER’S DEATH IN FRANCE. – Much sympathy is expressed through the village with Mr. and Mrs. H. Peck and family who have been officially informed of the death of their second son, Pte. W. Peck, from illness since the signing of the armistice.
