He was the son of George William Ball, a cart and van builder, born 1873 in Rothwell, Northants., and his wife Maria Ball (nee Atkins, married in the 3rd quarter of 1895 in the Blaby, Leics. district), born 1874 in Wigston, Leics. Victor Ernest was born on the 3rd March 1897 in North Kilworth, Leics., his siblings were, George, born in the 1st quarter of 1896, Evelyn Mary, born in the 3rd quarter of 1898 and Jessie, born in the 1st quarter of 1901, all his siblings were born in North Kilworth, Leics., also residing with the family was Victor’s widowed paternal grandmother, born 1849 in Rothwell, Northants., in March 1901 the family home was at Lutterworth Road, North Kilworth, Leics. In April 1911 Victor was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at North Kilworth, Leics., together with his father, a cart and wagon builder, his mother and siblings, Evelyn, a schoolgirl, Jessie, a schoolgirl, Albert Edward, a schoolboy, born in the 2nd quarter of 1902, Hilda Ellen, born in the 1st quarter of 1907 and Charles William, born in the 4th quarter of 1909, the latter three siblings were all born in North Kilworth, Leics. Victor died in captivity.
