He was the son of Newton Bromhead a farm bailiff, born 1851 in Alconbury, Hunts., and his wife Mary Elizabeth, born 1855 in Oakham, Rutland. John Paul was born in 1893 in Oakham, Rutland, his siblings were, Thomas J., born 1897 and Ebenezer, born 1898, both his siblings were born in Oakham, Rutland, in March 1901 the family home was at Norman Cottages, Braunston Road, Oakham, Rutland. In April 1911 John was a scholar and was a boarder at The School House, Oakham, Rutland.
