He was the son of Robert William Tebbutt, a framework knitter, born 1864 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Emily Tebbutt (nee Hickinbottom, married Q2 1895 in the Loughborough, Leics. district), born 1873 in Hathern, Leics. Francis Henry was born on the 12th July 1896 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were, Norah Lilian, born 1898 and Edith Millicent, born 1900, both his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 30, Regent Street, Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Francis was employed as a hosiery trade runner on and was residing in the family home at Kilby Road, Fleckney, Leics., together with his father, a framework knitter, his mother a cashmere wool winder and his siblings, Norah, a lambs wool seamer, Edith, Maud, born 1902 in Loughborough, Leics., Hugh William, born 1904, Barbara Eileen, born 1908 and Robert Gordon, born 1911, the latter three siblings were all born in Fleckney, Leics., also residing with the family was his widowed paternal grandmother, Mary Ann C. Tebbutt, born 1838 in Canterbury, Kent. The family later resided at 18, Gladstone St., Fleckney, Leics. Francis enlisted on the 28th July 1915 and embarked to join the Mediteranean Expeditionary Force on the 5th December 1915, joining his unit, the Nelson Battalion on the 9th January 1916 and serving with this unit until he was reported missing, later reported killed in action on the 13th November 1916.
