He was the son of Charles and Mary Ann Newcombe of Kilby Road, Fleckney, Leics., and the husband of Ada Bosworth (formerly Newcombe) of Main Street, Saddington, Leics. The War Diary for the 23rd October 1914 records. Attacks more or less all day. A very vigorous attack in the evening, but it was repulsed – Our casualties in the three days 22nd, 23rd and 24th were Captain’s RUSSELL, BENTLEY, POCHIN R.A.M.C. killed. Captain’s POWELL, POPE, Sir F. U. L. ROBINSON, Lt’s. NEEDHAM, EDEN wounded.
