He was the son of the late Thomas Kent, Platelayer and his wife Elizabeth Parrott, who was the daughter of William and Sarah Grove. Sydney was educated in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, and enlisted on the 22nd January 1915. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from May 1915 until he died in No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station on the 27th August 1918 from wounds received in action at Le Sars on that date. Sydney was married at Market Harborough on the 1st October 1904 to Edith Emily, who was the daughter of William Fellowes, and they had two Daughters, Una Grove who was born on the 8th March 1906 and Elizabeth Dulcie who was born on the 17th Februaruy 1912. Other sources show his place of residence as 10, Granville Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire. The 1911 census records for 15, Highfield Street, Great Bowden, Leics. Sydney Arthur Kent, head of the family and married 6 years, a Tailor, born 1880 in Dunstable, Beds., and his wife Edith Emily, born 1882 in Market Harborough, Leics. Also Una Grove, daughter born 1906 in Market Harborough, Leics., and Selina Fellowes, sister in law and single, a Sewing Machinist, born 1893 in Market Harborough, Leics. The War Diary for today records. M.22.b. 10.00pm. The Battalion was ordered to advance and moved to assembly position M.17.c. The advance was cancelled and the Battalion moved back to M.8.c. trenches to rest.
