The funeral of Major EG Gillilan was reported in the Market Harborough Advertiser on the 17th January 1947:

Death of Major E.G. Gillilan

Attended Boxing Day Meet

A former High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Major Edward Gibson Gillilan, DSO, DL, JP, died at his home, Upper Green, Great Bowden, on Thursday week.
Major Gillilan did not regain consciousness after being taken seriously ill on Monday night.
He was 66 years of age and one of the most prominent members of the Fernie Hunt, of which he had been chairman of committee for several years, and was at one time acting Field Master.
Living in Leicestershire almost all his life, he came to Great Bowden 30 years ago, and before that time lived at Carlton Manor and Stretton Hall.

He was an old Coldstream Guardsman and saw service in the South African and First World Wars. In the last war he was second in command of the area Home Guard.

An old Etonian, he was vice-chairman of the Market Harborough magistrates and sat on the Bench less than a month ago.
He was also closely associated with the Harborough Division Conservative Association.
His last public appearance was at the annual meeting of the Fernie Hounds at Great Bowden on Boxing Day, when on behalf of the Hunt Committee he made a presentation to Ald. JT Forsell, acting master during the war years.
His wife died in May last year and he leaves two daughters, Mrs Joan Dalrymple, who lives in Johannesburg, and Mrs Pamela Spanoghe of Windsor, and one son, Capt. Robin Gillilan, who served in the Coldstream Guards in the late war. His other son died as a result of the late war.
The funeral [took] place on Monday afternoon.

Many organisations with which Major Gillilan was connected were represented at the funeral at the church of SS Peter and Paul, Great Bowden, on Monday.
The service in the church was conducted by Canon EB Redlich and the lesson was read by the Right Rev. JJ Willis (Assistant Bishop of Leicester).

Canon Redlich also officiated at the interment at Great Bowden Cemetery.
