He was the son of Joseph and Emma Farey. The 1911 census records, Joseph Farey, married 20 years and head of the family, a French Polisher, born 1864 in Northampton, and his wife Emma, born 1869 in Blakesley, Northants. The children were Edith Emily, a Corset Hand, born 1892, Florence Mabel, a Corset Hand, born 1897 and Joseph Arthur, a Schoolboy, born 1899, all the children were born in Northampton. The family were residing at Newcombe Street, Market Harborough, Leics.
