Arthur Frederick Dolley had been a groom at Flore House, Northants and is recorded as living there on the 1911 Census.
He is commemorated on the Flore War Memorial, High Street, Flore.

Arthur Dolley was born on the 20th January 1882 at Boughton House, Weekly, Boughton, Northamptonshire. His parents were Harry William Dolley (b.1854) and Martha Dolley (nee Hall b.1860).

Harry William Dolley was a coachman at Boughton House and in the 1881 census he is living at the stable rooms at Boughton House with his wife, a new baby and Harry’s brother, Francis Dolley, who was a groom.

In the 1891 census they were living at Little Oxenden having recently moved from Isham. The family consisted of four boys and two girls. The eldest son, who was also called Harry William and aged 10. The second son, Arthur Frederick was 9. Third was a daughter called Alice R. (aged 7).Then two more sons, Francis C (6 yrs.) and Thomas Herbert (4 yrs.).Finally, a daughter, Emily G. (aged 1).

Arthur Frederick was enrolled at Great Oxenden School in 1891.

By the 1911 Census, father Harry William was still a groom but they had now moved to 16a Patrick Street, Little Bowden, Market Harborough. Arthur, now aged 29 years, was working as a groom at Flore House and shared accommodation with Albert Capell (also a casualty of WWI) at the Stables, Flore House.

Arthur enlisted at Northampton with the 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment (number 40022) and earned the rank of Lance Corporal.

The War diary for the day that he died, 2nd November 1917, records that there was heavy shelling during the night and that the weather was fine. The list of the dead and wounded includes No.40022 L/Cpl. A. Dolley. He was killed at the Second Battle of Passchendale.

He is buried at West Vlaanderen, Belgium and commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

As well as being listed on the Flore War Memorial, he is commemorated on the Market Harborough War Memorial*, St Nicholas’ Churchyard memorial, Little Bowden and the Cottage Hospital War Memorial, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
Probate was granted to his widow, Martha and she was left £102.0s.6d.
