He was the son of Charles Carter a general labourer, born 1859 in Wallbrook, Staffs., and his wife Mary A., a brush maker, born 1857 in Great Bowden, Leics. Charles Henry was born in 1882 in Great Bowden, Leics., his siblings were, John W., born 1880, Nellie, born 1885, Frank, born 1886 and Martha A., born 1889, all his siblings were born in Great Bowden, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 3, Taylors Cottages, Main Street, Great Bowden, Leics. In March 1901 Charles was employed as a domestic footman and was residing as a servant at Peover Cottage, Peover Superior, Ches. In April 1911 Charles was employed as a domestic butler and was residing as a servant at The Manor, Edgeworth, Cirencester, Glos.
