He was the son of Edward Arthur Buckmaster a railway signalman, born 1870 in Leighton Buzzard, Beds., and his wife Louisa Elizabeth, born 1873 in Swinford, Leics. Ernest William was born in 1896 in Lubenham, Leics., his siblings were, Beatrice E., born 1898, Percival Alfred, born 1899, Eleanor Elizabeth, born 1900 and Cyril Edward, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Lubenham, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Station Cottage, Lubenham, Leics. In April 1911 Ernest was employed as an ironmonger’s assistant and was residing in the family home at Bath Street, Market Harborough, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Percival, Eleanor, Cyril, Constance Annie, born 1907 and Sydney George, born 1910, the latter two siblings were both born in Lubenham, Leics.
