He was the son of Mark Bicknell a Railway Labourer, born 1857 in Southam, Warwks., and his wife Sarah , born 1851 in Long Buckby, Northants. Joseph Mark was born in 1880 in Long Buckby, Northants., his siblings were Thomas A., born 1882. Sarah, born 1883, Edith, born 1885 and Emily, born 1886, all his siblings were born in Long Buckby, Northants., in April 1891 the family home was at Railway Station, Murcott, Long Buckby, Northants. and the husband of Sarah Ann Bicknell. In March 1901 Joseph was employed as a Farm Servant and was residing as a boarder at The Furze, Lilbourne, Northants., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Lilbourne, All Saints. In April 1911 Joseph was employed as a Farm Labourer and was residing in the family home at The Lodge, East Farndon, Northants., together with his wife, Sarah Ann Bicknell (nee Atkins), born 1877 in Thrapston, Northants., and their children, Harold, born 1909 and Edward, born 1911, the latter two children were both born in Brampton Ash, Northants., and Marjorie, born 1904 in Wellingborough, Northants., and his step daughter May Atkins, born 1900 in Denford, Northants., also residing with the family was his mother in law Mrs. Atkins, born 1844 in Tansor, Northants.
