He was the son of Alfred Brown a boot and shoe repairer, born 1852 in Sapcote, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1854 in Sapcote, Leics. Thomas Ephraim was born in 1888 in Sapcote, Leics., his siblings were George A., born 1879, Sarah S., born 1881, Alfred C., born 1883, Joseph, born 1884, John James G., born 1886 and Peter Philip, born 1891, all his siblings were born in Sapcote, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Church Street, Sapcote, Leics. In March 1901 Thomas was employed as a farm plough boy and was residing in the family home at Church Street, Sapcote, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Leonard, born 1876 in Sapcote, Leics., George, Sarah, Joseph, John, Peter, Susan Beatrice, born 1893 and Willie Alfred, born 1895, the latter two siblings were both born in Sapcote, Leics. In April 1911 Thomas was employed as a quarry man and was residing in the family home at Church Street, Sapcote, Leics., together with his parents and siblings Sarah, Joseph, John, Peter, Susan and Willie. In the July, August, September quarter of 1915, Thomas married Agnes Mary Bason in the Hinckley, Leicestershire registration district. In the July, August, September quarter of 1920, Thomas’ widow Agnes married John C. Smith in the Hinckley, Leicestershire registration district, they resided at 25, Freemans Lane, Burbage, Hinckley, Leics. His younger brother Peter Philip died whilst a Prisoner of War in Germany. The War Diary entry for the 11th July 1916 records. QUADRANGLE TRENCH. Heavy shelling all day but no infantry attack.
