He was the son of John Brewin Cheney a domestic coachman, born 1868 in Mowsley, Leics., and his wife Amelia, born 1867 in Walton by Kimcote, Leics. Ernest was born in 1897 in East Langton, Leics., his siblings were, John, born 1893 and Harold, born 1894, both his siblings were born in East Langton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 48, Thorpe Langton, East Langton, Leics. In April 1911 Ernest was a scholar and was residing in the family home at East Langton, Leics., together with his parents and brother John.
