He was the son of Tom Chapman a stationary engine driver, born 1864 in Arnesby, Leics., and his wife Louisa, born 1861 in Arnesby, Leics. Tom was born in 1895 in Fleckney, Leics., his siblings were, Mary Jane, born 1882, Emily L., born 1883, Matthew, born 1886 and Arthur William, born 1890, the latter four siblings were all born in Arnesby, Leics., Constance M., born 1900 was born in Fleckney, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Saddington Road, Victoria Street, Fleckney, Leics. In April 1911 Tom was employed as a hosiery trade winder and was residing at Burgess Street, Wigston Magna, Leics., this being the family home of his married sister Mary Jane and her husband William Augusino Clarke a builder and wheelwright, born 1883 in London.
