He was the son of Henry Charles a shoe trade riveter, born 1866 in Whetstone, Leics., and his wife Sarah Ann, born 1867 in Whetstone, Leics. Lonzo was born in 1892 in Whetstone, Leics., his siblings were, Reuben Wills Charles, born 1889, Minah, born 1891, Walter, born 1896, Wilbord, born 1898 and Lois, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Whetstone, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Blaby Lane, Whetstone, Leics. In April 1911 Lonzo was employed as a shoe trade finisher and was residing in the family home at King Street, Whetstone, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Reuben, Minah, Walter, Wilbord, Lois, Rachel, born 1894, Henry, born 1902, Ellen, born 1904 and Sarah Ann, born 1909, the latter four siblings were all born in Whetstone, Leics. In the January, February, March quarter of 1916, Lonzo married Charlotte S. Clarke in the Blaby, Leicestershire marriage registration district. Lonzo died from drowning, an entry in the War Diary records the event. The War Diary for today records. LE QUESNOY. Support. Battn HQ LE QUESNOY also C Coy (BALL). A Coy (DUNLOP) WOOD SWITCH, B Coy (TOMSON) in GORRE and BRIDGE HEAD defences, D Coy (BROOKE) in RESERVE LINE north of TUNING FORK. Work started on building new trench to fill gap in RESERVE LINE, between TUNING FORK TRENCH and LOISNE TRENCH. All Battn working day and night on trenches, roads are in, and in rear of RESERVE LINE. Day quiet. Bathing carried out by 2 Coy’s in BREWERY REACH of LA BASSEE CANAL. Clean clothing supplied by Brigade. One man in C Coy attacked with cramp or heart failure suddenly sank and never rose again. His body was subsequently recovered after several efforts by Lance Corporal NEWCOMBE who showed considerable courage.

'Lonzo's drowning is recorded/remembered in Whetstone graveyard, along with Robert, born 1916 ( one of his twins, who died as a baby ) and many years later his other twin, George Henry ( Harry, my father )'.
