Major HE Ellis was a SOE agent, serving with Z Special Unit, the raiding force arm of Special Operations Australia. He managed to escape from Singapore before it fell to the Japanese, but was lost on an insertion operation into Borneo, between 25-26 March 1945.

Harry had another nickname- Ben or Benny.

Extract from RAAF report - presentation of death of crew of Liberator aircraft A.72-101:

Liberator aircraft A.72-191 of No. 200 Squadron took off on an operational flight on 25th March 1945 and failed to return to its base.

Though listed as passenger, Major Ellis was in charge of training all Z Special personnel assigned to be inserted by 200 Flight and insisted on acting as the Jumpmaster on this first mission into Borneo. 200 Flight was a top secret special duties unit set up to insert and supply Z Special Unit personnel in the SW Pacific Theater from March 1945 to the end of WWII.
