He was the son of William Lee, a blacksmith, born 1860 in Thrussington, Leicestershire and his wife Adeliza Lee (nee Squires, married in the 4th quarter of 1898 in the Bourne, Lincolnshire district), born 1871 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Arthur William was born in the 3rd quarter of 1899 in Thrussington, his half blood siblings were, Caroline Elizabeth, a nurse girl, born 1889 and Lilian Grace, born 1891, both his siblings were born in Thrussington, in March 1901 the family home was at The Green, Thrussington. In April 1911 Arthur was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at The Green, Thrussington, together with his father, a grazier, his mother and half blood sibling, Adeliza, a general domestic servant, born 26th May 1886 in Thrussington. Arthur had two younger sisters who both died in infancy, Alice Rose, born and died in 1905 and Rose Mary, born 28th March 1909 and who died in July 1910, both sisters were born in Thrussington. He also had a half blood brother, John Henry, born 1885 in Thrussington. His father had previously been married to Jane Ann Lee (nee Squires, married in the 1st quarter of 1884 in the Bingham, Nottinghamshire district), born 1860 in Nottingham, and who died, aged 37 in the 1st quarter of 1897 in the Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire district.
On Friday July 12th 1918 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “THRUSSINGTON.” – WAR MEMS. – Mr. Wm. Lee (chairman of the Parish Council) has received an official notice from the War Office that his son Private Arthur Lee, West Yorks, has died from his wounds received in action on June 29th. Private Lee joined up last August, when he had just turned 18 years of age. The sympathy of the whole village goes out to Mr. Lee in his sad bereavement. Prior to enlistment the deceased was in the employ of Messrs. Moore, Eady, and Co., Granby-street, Leicester. – No news has been heard of Privates Archie Needham, and Wilfred Crowden, posted missing on March 22nd last, and their parents are beginning to fear the worst.
