He was the son of Zillah Walton a hosiery trade machinist, born 1871 in Loughborough, Leics. Joseph Edmund Carter Walton was born in 1896 in Leicester, his siblings were, Ernest Carter Walton born 1898 and Reginald Carter Walton born 1900, both his siblings were born in Leicester, in March 1901 the family were residing with their mother as housekeeper, at 2, Cecilia Road, Leicester, this being the home of Joseph Carter a coal loader, born 1874 in Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Joseph was employed as a hosiery trade seamer and was residing in the family home at Welford Road, Wigston Magna, Leics., together with Joseph Carter a drayman, Zillah Carter, his mother, recorded as being married for fifteen years, and siblings, Ernest and Reginald.
