Former Coalville Schoolboy's Capture

A former Coalville Broom Leys schoolboy, Eric Farmer, of Main Street, Thornton, who is not yet 19, is home on leave from H.M.S. Cossack, after taking part in the Altmark affair and the battle of Narvik.

He is a telegraphist on this "little ship with a big reputation" and his most treasured possession is a huge red and white flag bearing in the centre a black swastika. It was taken from one of the German merchant ships.

Research undertaken and submitted by Andy Murby 27/1/2018.

Images of Eric Farmer and HMS Cossack provided by D Hawes 12/04/23.
