Exhaustive research has failed to discover any documentary information that pertains to the family background of David Edgar Bridger, neither does any service record survive that could offer any insight into his short period of military service. What information that has been discovered is that at the age of 15, he sailed aboard the SS. Thames from Buenos Aires, Argentina, via Montevideo; Santos; Rio de Janeiro; Bahia; Pernabuco; St. Vincent; Lisbon and Vigo arriving in Southampton on the 5th August 1905. There is no record of his returning to his home in Argentina, but he again sailed the same route with the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company ship, Amazon arriving in Liverpool on the 30th November 1914, his occupation was given as farmer. The assumption is that upon arriving in England, he then enlisted into the Cavalry of the Line and was posted to the 1st King Edward’s Horse, no further information is available regarding his period of military service. There is additionally, no entry under his name and service number in the Medal Award Rolls, indicating that he did not embark on overseas service. The only information presently available, attributes his place of death to Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire and his interment in Biggleswade Cemetery in Bedfordshire. The fact that his name is recorded on the memorials in both Theddingworth churchyard and All Saint’s Church, would imply that a family link exists to that parish or residential area, however research has failed to yield any clear connection to anyone living in that locality, and as such this will remain an incomplete record pending review, should information in the future be forthcoming.
