He was the son of Frederick Carr a button turner, born 1857 in Leicester and his wife Matilda a hosiery trade worker, born 1859 in Leicester. Frederick was born in 1879 in Leicester, he had one sibling, a brother Joseph, born 1877 in Leicester, in April 1881 the family home was at 58, Thames Street, Leicester. In March 1901 Frederick was employed as a button turner and was residing in the family home at Latimer Cottage, Mowmacre Hill, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, together with his father, now a button manufacturer his mother and his siblings, William, born 1885 in Leicester, his married sister Mona N. Brayshaw, born 1883 in Leicester, and brother in law Henry A. Brayshaw, born 1882 in Chesterfield, Derbys., and his niece Mona Brayshaw, born 1901 in Leicester. In April 1911 Frederick was employed as a sawyer and was residing in the family home at Orton Road, Leicester, together with his wife of eight years, Maud a button maker, born 1883 in Leicester and their children, Frederick, born 1904 and a one month old unnamed female infant, born in 1911, both children were born in Leicester. His younger brother William also fell.
