He was the son of John Cheater a brickyard labourer, born 1854 in Blaby, Leics., and his wife Ann, born 1855 in Countesthorpe, Leics. Percy was born in 1890 in South Wigston, Leics., his siblings were, Eliza Ann, born 1880 in Countesthorpe, Leics., John H., born 1882 and Margaret, born 1884, the latter two siblings were both born in Blaby, Leics., Hilda, born 1887 and Norah, born 1890, the latter two siblings were both born in South Wigston, Leics., also residing with the family was his brother in law, William J. Roos, born 1874 in Countesthorpe, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Saint Andrews Cottages, Countesthorpe Road, Wigston Magna, Leics. In March 1901 Percy was residing in the family home at 66, Countesthorpe Road, Wigston Magna, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Eliza, John, Margaret, Hilda, Norah, Joseph, born 1892 and Elsie Jenny, born 1896, the latter two siblings were both born in South Wigston, Leics. In April 1911 Percy was employed as a shoe trade pressman and was residing in the family home at 66, Countesthorpe Road, Wigston Magna, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Norah, Joseph and Elsie. In the January, February, March quarter of 1913, Percy married Florence E. Wilson in the Leicester marriage registration district. In the April, May, June quarter of 1922, Percy’s widow Florence married William Kimbury in the Leicester marriage registration district, they resided at Willoughby Waterleys, Leics. The War Diary entry for the 29th October 1917 records. YPRES. Work continued as before. At 12.50pm Operational Order 39 issued ordering the move of “C” Company from EECKE to YPRES and of “B” Company from YPRES to EECKE. 2 men proceeded on leave. 1 man was killed and 2 were wounded.
