He was the son of Joseph Leonard Dobson, a boot and shoe trade riveter, born 1861 in Enderby, Leics., and his wife Maria Dobson (nee Bailey), born 1863 in Enderby, Leics. Cyril was an elastic web packer, and was born in 1896 in South Wigston, Leics., his siblings were, Dorothy, a hosiery trade mender, born 1893 and Leonard William, a butcher’s assistant, born 1894, both his siblings were born in South Wigston, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at 32, Timber Street, South Wigston, Leicester. On Friday January 5th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL ROLL OF HONOUR” - (A photograph accompanied the article). Private Cyril Dobson, Leicester Regt., killed in action. His father lives at 22, Timber Street, South Wigston. The War Diary entry for the 18th September 1916 records. BIVOUACS, A4C. At 11.00am Received 6th Division Operational Order 88 ordering relief of 6th Division by 8th Division. At 11.10am Received C.R.E. A808 ordering Battalion to clear battlefield over the area T.14.d., T.14.c., T.14.a., T20 GUILLEMONT 1/20000. At 12.00 noon “B” Company proceeded to clear T.20. Casualties Captain A. G. WRIGHT wounded, 2 men killed and 6 men wounded. At 8.00pm Major F. LATHAM D.S.O. took over command of 9th SUFFOLK REGT. At 3.00pm Received 6th Division Operational Order 89.
