Lieutenant Fowler was born in Skeffington, in 1923, the second son of Richard Fowler, a farmer, and Annie Fowler (née York). He served during the Second World War with the 4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and took part in the Normandy campaign. He died in action, on either the 9th or 10th July 1944, in the vicinity of Rauray, where the 4th Lincs (146 Bde, 49th Division, XXX Corp) were taking part in the battle for Caen.
