He was the son of Alfred Eastwood. Other sources show his place of residence as Sileby, Leics. The War Diary for today records. TRENCHES CAMBRIN RIGHT. Still freezing and snowing. 2nd Lt WESTCOTT went to Divisional Training Battn Officers Class. 2nd Lt G. E. BANWELL M.C. went on leave to England. 2nd Lt W. R. TODD took over duties of Transport Officer from Lt R. W. EDGE returning to C Coy. Enemy not very active but fired a few rounds of 77mm towards our Batteries, also a few heavy trench mortars onto left subsection. A Coy (BARROWCLIFFE) started to try and wire the new CURRIN TRENCH but were seen in the moon light and lost a platoon Sergeant killed almost at once. Work was abandoned for the night. Otherwise night quiet, but continuation of moon, and snow very light indeed.
