His enlistment documents record that he gave his next of kin as his mother, Mrs Ellen Fagan of 678, Hounslow Road, London, England. He stated that his trade or calling was Stove Rivetter, and that he was married. He had served for 3 ½ years in the 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, London Regt. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 3 inches in height and had a chest measurement of 30 ½ to 33 ½ inches. His complexion was described as medium with blue eyes and brown hair. It was noted that he had a scar on his left forearm and a deep depression on his chin. He gave his religion as Church of England.
