He was the son of James Corah, a stone quarry labourer, born 1869 in Shepshed, Leics., and his wife Elizabeth Corah (nee Savage), born 1868 in Shepshed, Leics. Albert was born in 1898 in Shepshed, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister, Alice Gwendoline, born 1895 in Shepshed, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Belton Street, Shepshed, Leics. In April 1911 Albert was employed as a fish monger’s errand boy and was residing in the family home at Pick Street, Shepshed, Leics., together with his father, now an estate labourer, his mother and siblings, Alice, a wool factory worker and Charles, born 1908, Shepshed, Leics. The War Diary for today records. LE VERGUIER. 2.00am. 2nd Lt. FEATHERSTON and four men encountered strong enemy screen at G.20A.39. One man killed. Considerable enemy activity until dawn. Corps ordered work to start on a continuous forward line, embodying most of the existing forward posts.
