He was the son of Charles Colver a coal miner, born 1872 in Ravenstone, Leics., and his wife Martha, born 1876 in Hugglescote, Leics. Charles Thomas was born in 1899 in Hugglescote, Leics., also residing with the family was his widowed paternal grandfather, Charles Colver a rope maker and labourer, born 1828 in Whitwick, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Swannington Road, Ravenstone, Leics. In April 1911 Charles was a scholar and was residing in the family home at Coalville Lane, Ravenstone, Leics., together with his father, now a colliery labourer, his mother and siblings Doris Eliza Hannah, born 1902, Reuben John Usher Colver, born 1904, Alfred William, born 1906, Arthur, born 1909 and George Frederick, born 1911, all his siblings were born in Ravenstone, Leics.
