He was the son of George Bernard Bright a journeyman tailor, born 1867 in Sneinton, Notts., and his wife Elizabeth Ann a tailoress, born 1873 in Leicester. George Harold was born in 1892 in Leicester, his siblings were Hiverther Gertrude, born 1897, Rose Evelyn, born 1898 and Albert Edward, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 36, Fleet Street, Leicester. In April 1911 George was employed as a hairdresser and was residing in the family home at 34, Dannett Street, Leicester, together with his father, now a tailor, his mother, now a maternity nurse, and his siblings, Hiverther, Rose, Albert, Grace Elizabeth, born 1896, Ethel Veronica, born 1903, Hilda May, born 1906, Sydney Valentine, born 1907, Frank Percival, born 1908 and Daisy Violetta, born 1911, all his siblings were born in Leicester. George was Mentioned in Despatches.The War Diary entry for the 18th August 1916 records. BERTRANCOURT, P2a. At 8.30am 1 officer and 1 platoon of “B” Company proceeded to ENGLEBELMER for work as before. 2 men admitted to the Field Ambulance sick. At 8.45am “A” Company worked on SLOAN STREET. At 4.15pm “C” Company worked on SLOANE STREET, WELLINGTON STREET, THE WATER DUMP and the BATTLE STATION. “D” Company worked on JACOBS LADDER.
