He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Wakefield (formerly Stone) of 87, Station Street, Loughborough, Leics. The War Diary for the 19th September records that the Battalion were relieved by the East Surrey Regiment at about 1.00am and proceeded to Maltz Horn Farm, arriving about 5.00am. No one was available so the Battalion lit camp fires and remained till dawn about 7.00am. Battalion marched off to transport lines (outside Carnoy) for breakfast, and moved again at 12.00 noon to billets in Ville Sur Ancre.
