Source: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland.
He was the son of William and Emma Smith. The War Diary for today records. Battn should have been relieved by 2nd Battn ROYAL IRISH RIFLES at 10.30pm but relief delayed through two of the relieving Coys losing their way. Relief finally completed about 6.00pm on the 23rd Instant.
