He was the fourth son of the late Dr. William Grimes Palmer and his wife Mrs E. Palmer of Loughborough, Leicestershire. Arthur was educated at Loughborough Grammar School, Leicestershire. He volunteered for active service on the outbreak of war, and enlisted in the Army Service Corps in August 1914. He went through the Gallipoli Campaign, and afterwards served with the Salonika Army, he was offered a commission, which he declined, and died at Malta on the 8th September 1916 of malaria, contracted while on active service in Salonika. Arthur was unmarried. His younger brother Edwin was killed in action.
