He was the son of Lawrence Musson, a plasterer, born 1871 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Nellie Musson, born 1873 in Loughborough, Leics. Leonard Musson was born on the 15th December 1895 in Loughborugh, Leics., his siblings were, Elsie, born 1895, Millie, born 1898 and Nellie, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 10, Havelock Street, Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Leonard was employed as an apprentice plasterer and was residing in the family home at 10, Havelock Street, Loughborugh, Leics., together with his father, a plasterer, his mother and siblings, Elsie, a hosiery trade worker, Nellie, a schoolgirl, Hilda, born 1902 and Lawrence, born 1910, the latter two siblings were both born in Loughborough, Leics. Leonard enlisted into the Royal Marines on the 27th January 1916 in Nottingham, and was allocated the service number 1427. His medical examination recorded that he was 5 foot 5 inches in height, his complexion was described as fresh, he had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. He gave his date and place of birth as the 15th December 1895 in Loughborough, Leics., he gave his trade or calling as plasterer and his religion as Church of England. He gave his father Lawrence of 10, Havelock Street, Loughborough, Leics., as his next of kin. His record of service began when he was posted to the Recruit Depot at Deal, Kent as a Private on the 27/1/16 14/4/16, when he was transferred. Chatham Division, 15/4/16 – 25/7/16, when he embarked. HMS Victory V (RM Bde.), 26/7/16 - 28/4/17, when he was reported missing in action, assumed dead.
