Source: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland.
He was the son of James and Helen Macintosh of Brockenhurst, Hants., and the husband of Alice May Macintosh. Other sources show his place of residence as Brockenhurst, Hants. The War Diary for today records. BIENVILLERS SECTOR. Battalion relieved 9th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT. Work on support line and communications continued. Very foggy all day and German parapet was not seen except from the salient. A good deal of wiring was done in the course of the day and 2 men were wounded in front of Group IV. At “Stand To” in the evening a man of Group I was found to be missing. A patrol of 4 men and an N.C.O. went out to search for him about 6.00pm. About ¾ of the way across to the German wire a very large German patrol was encountered. The Germans opened fire and our patrol retreated, but before they had gone far one of the men was shot through the heart. The patrol returned and 2nd Lt. BURNETT took out a strong party and recovered the body without opposition. About the same time one man in the trench was slightly wounded by a ricochet.
