He was the son of George and Elizabeth Lacey of 157, Meadow Lane, Loughborough, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his brother, Ernest Lacey of c/o Thomas Geary, Manutahi, Taranaki, New Zealand as his next of kin. He gave his trade or calling as Farm Labourer. He embarked with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, Reinforcements “H” Company from Wellington, New Zealand aboard HMNZT 88 “Athenic” on the 16th July 1917 bound for Liverpool, England.
